Eddie Bancroft

 

Stalwart of the club, a pacey left handed bowler who has consistently taken wickets for Town . The current club captain often bats as number 11, his big hitting however has the potential to win a game.

 

 

Terry Wood

 

 

A true legend of the club, Wood has consistently topped the batting averages at Churchtown since the clubs conception. Also a left hander, he is a fine stroke player and also a steady medium pace bowler.

 

James Buck

 

All rounder Buck has continued to impress in recent years, particularly with his much improved bowling. His once erratic bowling has now been developing into dangerous swing deliveries and his weekly figures are testament to his value at the club. His batting is explosive and his field is solid.

 

 

Carl Foster

 

Foster is widely regarded as the finest bowler in the division. His clever bowling has the ability to cause problems to any batsman and his variety with the ball often opens up games. His major honours for Town include a nine wicket haul and a hat-trick.

 

Greg Pennington

 

Middle order batsman who doesn’t shy away from attacking strokes, Pennington will be looking for some big scores in 2009 after failing following good starts on a host of occasions last season. A point fielder, he is also regarded as a safe pair of hands.

 

Gordon Pennington

 

Despite his advancing years, Pennington continues to deliver the goods as Town’s wicketkeeper on the testing pitches of Division II. His ability to stand up, catch and calm head often puts pressure on batsman. His slow paced batting can offer a good foil.

 

Phil Carder

 

 Stalwart and founder member of the club, Carder is thought of as the safe pair of hands at the club, and also a solid batsman. ‘Stonewall’ Carder is an excellent stroke player and a genuine cricketer in every sense.

 

John Southworth

 

Southworth has developed into the perfect team cricketer, his batting, bowling and fielding sets the standard for Churchtown. He joined the club in recent years, but has really established himself as a key player in the past few seasons. Last years Player of the Year, big things are expected in 2009.

 

Craig Budworth

 

Local lad Budworth joined the club to make rare appearances, but has become a first team regular with Churchtown. His attitude, spirit in the field is backed up with his ability to take wickets and also score much needed runs with the bat..

 

Ryan Buck

 

Buck Jnr will be enjoying his first season with Churchtown and has already caught the eye in pre-season nets.

 

Graham Knowles

 

Solid batsman and occasional spin bowling Knowles has been playing quality cricket in Southport for many years. A dangerous opening batsman Knowles has won countless game for Town with his stylish and attacking approach to batting.

 

Chris Knowles

 

Youngster who has developed into an excellent fielder and also ever improving batsman.

 

Carl Jackson

 Jackson is a reasonably new recruit to the club, and a welcome one. His attitude and banter in the field never crosses the line and he has shown on a number of occasions he may pose a threat with the bat. He is certainly one to watch this year.

 

 

 Pete Naylor

 

 

Long serving member of the club, Naylor is an occasional player who can always been replied upon to turn out. He is a fine ground fielder and a dangerous batsman as well as a great influence on the younger players in the squad.

 

Ian Winterburn

 

Winterburn has playing in most of Churchtown’s greatest triumphs. A big hitting batman, with a great eye. He is also a solid fielder and in recent years has developed into a useful middle pace bowler.
