BUSINESSMAN Paul Lang has backed grassroots sports in the community by renewing his sponsorship of Churchtown Cricket Club.
He was so impressed with the spirit they play the game, athletic ability and team spirit he got in touch to back them with funding for new kit and equipment. The relationship was gone from strength to strength with visiting teams often joining ‘Town in Langs Wine bar for aftermath food and drink.
After receiving new playing jersey, ‘Town have now been kitted out in Adidas Presentation Tracksuit with club logo and sponsors on the back. They have already proved popular for both match travel and training.
Paul Lang, explained: “The team are a super set of lads and great ambassadors for Churchtown on the field, they play good cricket with a smile on their faces. Win, lose or draw they always call in after a game to talk us through the game, I’d like to wish them good luck for the season and I also encourage local people to pop down to Ferryside Lane to see them in action.”
Churchtown, who play in the Southport & District League, have started their season well and have a strong pool of players to pick from.
Club Captain, Eddie Bancroft, said: “This club was started in 1987, back then they was a lot of needle and unnecessary heckling at match. The founder member got together and decided we wanted to play competitive cricket, but enjoy it. Even now you read of local games ended in farce, with rivalry going too far. Throughout the years our ethos has attracted players of all ages and we’ve managed to rise over the ranks, never before have I seen this club looking so strong.”
